Coronavirus and flight cancellation. What about refunds for canceled flights? Who's eligible to compensation?

Am I entitled to get a ticket refund for a flight that was canceled?

Yes. The regulations oblige the carriers to refund money charged for passenger service, which has not been delivered. This means that you are fully entitled to a refund for tickets you were unable to use due to the flight cancellation.

Am I entitled to get additional compensation for a canceled flight ?

No. According to the regulation EU 261/04, in the event of extraordinary circumstances ( which includes the pandemic), flight cancellation compensation does not apply. Carriers are not responsible for the situation.

We are getting details from passengers who haven't received a refund from the airlines yet.  If you are experiencing this problem, our advice is for you to be patient and give the carriers time to adapt to the current situation which is both financially and organizationally difficult.

Another option is to send an e-mail to the airline with a request for an immediate reimbursement of your costs or  for a guarantee that the purchased ticket can be used at a different time which is convenient for you.

If your flight was delayed or canceled prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, please click the button below to quickly and free of charge check to see if you are eligible fpr compensation.
